Good news for Cammell Laird shipyard and Merseyside

October 18, 2010

The announcement by the coalition government that building work of two new aircraft carriers would continue is a good news for the Cammell Laird shipyard that is already building the flight deck and hangars for the aircraft supper carrier HMS Queen Elizabeth in a £44 million contract.

This is the second good news for Merseyside after the announcement yesterday that the £431 million second Mersey crossing is safeguarded.

Such large-scale investment in Merseyside will help to save jobs and will provide infrastructure for economic recovery for Liverpool City Region.

May 31, 2010

Port-based companies in Liverpool will be spared a hefty tax bill after the new government scrapped a backdated demand of the previous Labour government, which many had deemed unfair and a threat to the recovery of Merseyside economy.  This is a great news for the City of Liverpool given the importance of the Port to our economy and it is one of the first actions of the Conservatives-led coalition government, in keeping with an election promise of the Tories.

Quote of the Year – “Dear chief secretary, I’m afraid to tell you there’s no money left”

May 17, 2010
The former Labour Chief Secretary to the Treasury, Liam Byrne, has summed up Labour’s stewardship of the economy with a note for his successor which said “there’s no money left”.

Byrne’s note was discovered by David Laws, the Liberal Democrat MP who was appointed by the coalition government to succeed Byrne as No 2 at the Treasury.

Laws told reporters: “It was a one-sentence letter which simply said: ‘Dear chief secretary, I’m afraid to tell you there’s no money left,’ which was honest but slightly less helpful advice than I had been expecting.”

May 2, 2010

We keep hearing about the so-called “Global Recession” from Mr. Gordon Brown as if it has imported from some where. Typically he blamed the USA.

Yes, the collapse of Lehmen Brothers may have triggered the financial crisis but surely the US did not make the banking regulations in the UK?  Wasn’t it the Labour government that awarded the RBS banker Fred Goodwill a kighthood for his “service to banking”?

TV debate and Manifesto

April 16, 2010

While the media is completely submerged in the coverage of the leaders’ debate on TV last night, I would urge voters to spend some time reading the manifestos of all parties between the debate. It will be on the pledges made in the Manifestos that the voters will hold the politicians accountable, not the charismatic performance.
